# AI agents in support: what works and what only impresses

The demo always impresses. The difference shows in the 500th conversation, when a customer asks something nobody planned for.

## Start with the data, then the model.

An agent is only as good as its access to the truth. If order status lives in three systems that disagree, no model will save you. The first job in every [AI project](https://www.easyadmin.gr/en/ai-automation) is the dull one: clean data and a reliable API.

## Three uses that pay off.

- Status and tracking: “where is my order?” A clear question, a clear source of truth and huge volume.
- Product discovery: guidance through a large catalogue where filters fail. Here the agent works as a salesperson.
- Internal triage: sorting and routing tickets before a person sees them.

## What to keep with people.

Refunds, emotionally charged complaints, medical or legal questions. The model can answer them; the cost of a wrong answer is what keeps them with a person.

## Escalation is the main feature.

An agent that says “I don’t know, let me put you through” builds more trust than one that is confidently wrong. Decide where it hands over to a person before you write a single prompt.

The goal is that only the tickets worth a person reach one.

## Measure the right things.

Containment rate alone misleads: a conversation that ended because the customer gave up counts as a win. Read it together with resolution without repeated questions, the escalation rate and satisfaction after the conversation.
