# WooCommerce, Shopify or custom: choosing a platform you won’t regret

The useful question is where your business’s complexity will be in two years. Here is when SaaS, WooCommerce or a custom build is the right answer.

## The wrong question.

Most conversations start with “which platform is best?” That question has no answer. The useful one is: where will your business’s complexity be in two years?

A shop with 300 products and stable prices has little in common with one running 260,000 SKUs, dynamic pricing, several markets and ERP sync. The platform that serves the first becomes the constraint for the second, and the other way round.

## When SaaS is the right answer.

Shopify and similar platforms work very well when the platform itself isn’t your competitive advantage. If you win on brand, content or exclusive products, there is no sense in taking on technical debt to run your own updates and servers. SaaS fits when:

- you want to be live within weeks
- your operations fit the platform’s model
- you have no in-house technical team and don’t plan to build one

## When WooCommerce makes sense.

When content and SEO are central and you want control over the logic without starting from zero. The risk is well known: every plugin is a dependency that will catch up with you in an update. A Woo shop with 40 plugins is more fragile than a custom build, and no more flexible.

## When custom earns its place.

A [custom build](https://www.easyadmin.gr/en/ecommerce) is justified when the logic is the product: unusual pricing, complex stock, B2B tiers, your own data as an advantage. In our projects the move to custom always came after the business had proved what it needed.

Custom is the answer to a problem you have measured.

## A practical test.

Write down the five changes you want to ship in the next year. For each, ask what it costs on this platform. If three of the five need a workaround, you have your answer.
